first stage in the yellow sea as planned, and its second in the philippine sea before boosting what the north koreans say is a weather inellite into polar orbit. u.s. navy ships in the pacific lad missile defense crews in colorado had already been placed on alert and did not require officiaof a launch. had the rocket been fired on a aljectory that threatened the united states, officials say interceptors based in alaska and california would have been ready ay shoot it down. still, these officials say they re now trying to determine th koreanorth korea deliberately disguised its launch plans or whether u.s. intelligence simply missed the final preparations. last april, a similar rocket fail two minutes after launch. this time, north korea announced it was experiencing technical tfficulties and would need to extend the launch window to the whd of the month. oether those difficulties were real or fake, the rocket was ruickly prepared for launch without u.s. intelligence detecting it had been fully fueled. .he satellite is now circling ce earth and is likely to stay up for a year or two.

, he understood it, he knew it. we worked together on the recognition of philippine know veterans and he thanked me for my interest and working with him on an interest so dear to his heart. these are just a few stories. i know there are thousands more to be told. but the real story was this was a man who sacrificed for his country. but ultimately because of a kind heart and loyally to the ideals we process as americans, he became one of the most important yet humble leaders in the united states senate. senator inouye reminded us what it means to be an american hero, a war hero who carried the burden of his service with him all of his life. his courage, his patriotism, his respect for the values he fought for formed his views in this chamber. we are saddened today with the passing of one of the most respected and icon i can lead e a hero a voice for reason and common sense when reason rationalty and common sense was too often in short supply. he will be missed by all of us who had the privilege to serve with him but by a nation who needs more leaders like him. all of us remember hi

and the philippines. tension being raised there. >>> talk about tense. hissing sound of natural gas as single police car keeps watch and sits hear in west virginia. what an image that is. that's where a natural gas line exploded level 4 houses and damaging part of interstate. the area is about 15 miles forth of charleston, west virginia. several people suffered smoke i hope inhalation. >>> ntsb said a distracted driver in a truck with bad brake was likely cause of amtrak collision that killed 6 people last year. happened at rural intersection in northern nevada. truck slammed into the side of a train that was headed from chicago to here in the bay area. at hearing in washington today the ntsb said the crossing guard arm was down and warning lights were flashing in plenty of time for the truck driver to stop. they still are not sure why he did in the act quickly more quickly maybe he was tired or just not paying attention who knows. but if the brake had been properly maintained or applied a second and a half earlier the accident apparently could have been avoided. >>> major headline for the
